Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass is the gold standard for bariatric surgery. The operation creates a small pouch out the stomach and re-routes the intestines to allow food to bypass part of the intestines leading to decreased absorption. Gastric Bypass is the most successful surgery at treating severe reflux or heartburn, poorly controlled diabetes, poorly controlled hypertension, and has the most weight loss on average. However, the risk of severe complication and death are higher with the Gastric Bypass.
